DREAM COME TRUE!

Image
This is my final post and I have (safely) reached the conclusion of my trip!!!.  And - as the title of the post says - this trip has been a dream come true.  The trip met and more than exceeded my expectations.  Any of you who have been following my blog - I thank you - and I'm sure you already know how much I've treasured the opportunity and enjoyed every minute of this trip of a lifetime. I thought I'd catch you up on what's been happening since my last post  - which was a while ago. I arrived back at my home port marina on Key Biscayne in mid-February after the trip down the Intra-Coastal Waterway.  I then made a trip back to Chicago to see Janet, Penny, Megan and Mike. I also took some time to go to the West Coast and spend time with Richie, Kendra, and Carolyn... I had planned to sail to the Bahamas but for a variety of reasons I opted not to go to the Bahamas.  Instead, I spent time at the house in Florida.  I got some much needed mainte...

Back at the Dock - Home Port!!!

YES .  I am back at the dock at Crandon Park Marina, Key Biscayne, Florida. I really did KISS the dock when I arrived!! What a terrific sense of accomplishment and pride I feel.  At the same time I am overwhelmed by a mix of emotions - including:  happiness, sadness, joyfulness, and a sense of how lucky I am to have had this experience and to have returned safe and sound from where I began this trip 259 days ago!! For the past several days I have enjoyed nice, warm, sunny weather, which has afforded me ample opportunity to reflect on my trip as I finished up the last 100 or so miles to Miami. I am thankful for so many things and so many people - here's a short list of some of the things I'm most thankful for: Family including: Janet Mom/Dad Kids:  Rich/Kendra, Carolyn/Phil, Megan/Mike PENNY!!! Monica Katzenberger Family I met and visited along the way: Susan/Bobby - Rob/Dana - Reagan/Hayden - Chris & Chris - Ariana & JT - Matt Mark ...

I get by with a Little Help from my FRIENDS

Image
For those of you who still look at my blog posts I'd like you to hum the old Beatles tune - 'I Get by with a Little Help from my Friends'.  You'll see why as you read on...  Really - just keep humming the song... A quick recap.  I left the boat in Hilton Head, SC over the holidays.  I returned and cruised to Savannah where Janet joined me for a great time together. When she left I headed south from Savannah and lo and behold - I broke down again !!! Remember this guy... That's my transmission which broke down back in late October.  I was on the Chesapeake Bay at the time and it took about a week and a half of down time to get repairs made and get up and running again.  Well I guess if lightning can strike twice in the same place - a transmission can fail twice within 100 hours of use...  It shouldn't happen - I don't know why it happened - but it did happen. Luckily for me I was heading in at the end of the day when this happened and...

ONWARD!

Before I resume my blog and fill you in on the continuation of the trip I must digress to the holidays... First of all cheers to all!  Janet and I hoist a glass and toast to you and hope you had a great holiday and enjoy a wonderful year ahead... I left the boat in Hilton Head SC and headed home to enjoy the holidays with family.  It was a great tine seeing everyone and enjoying good food and good company...  The highlight of the holiday was not just meeting the newest member of the family -  Chris and Chris' son John Tyler...  but even better was watching mom get a chance to meet him and hold him!!!  After what mom went through a few weeks ago it is a miracle that this moment came to be... Mom and JT!!! Anyways - after all the holiday hub-bub settled down I returned to the boat in Hilton Head and got going again. But first I had to have Dobbs go up the mast and fix one of my navigation lights...  Thanks Dobbs!! The stretch of...
